Building Berms for Planting Trees: A Step-by-Step Guide

Hello everyone, this is Jack from Daisy Creek Farms. In this video, I will be sharing with you the process of building berms for planting trees. By building berms, we can raise the trees a little higher than the ground level, preventing water from collecting around the roots and rotting them. For this, I will be using a three-point better attachment that I got with my Kubota tractor.

Step 1: Testing the Better Attachment Before starting with the actual process, I tested the better attachment at the back of my property. The attachment worked really well, and I was able to make good berms using it.

Step 2: Building Berms for 3.5 Acres Now that I was confident with the better attachment, I began building berms for 3.5 acres to plant 520 trees. With the help of the attachment, I made two little berms that came along pretty well.

Step 3: Marking the Roads Once the berms were built, I used a wheel and a frame to mark the roads. To do this, I built a frame around the wheel and clamped it in place with the clamps that come with the wheelbarrow. I then used the 45-degree adjoins to join it to my tractor. This made it easy for me to mark the roads with precision.

Step 4: Making Rows After marking the roads, I started making rows using the better attachment. I made sure that the rows were equidistant, and to ensure this, I measured the distance between each row using the wheel and the 2x4.

Step 5: Building Berms Along the Rows With the rows marked, I built berms along each row using the better attachment. I went over the first berm again to mark the second row and filled up the soil even more. I repeated this process until all the berms were built.

Step 6: Using a Roll Martyr To ensure that the rows were put together well, I used a roll martyr. It worked out great, and the rows were put together perfectly.

Farming can seem intimidating, but building berms for planting trees is a straightforward process. All you need is the right equipment and a little bit of patience. With this guide, you can build berms for your trees with ease. Don't let anyone intimidate you into thinking you can't do it. Farming is one of the easiest things you can learn and do yourself.
